Becoming a musician is incredibly rewarding.
As a musician, you must be able to read music fluently - without hesitation. Your pace of growth as a musician increases rapidly when you are fluent in the language of music, that is, when you no longer need to translate what is meant by the composer.
Many who decide to become musicians will at some point become overwhelmed and abandon the pursuit.
Like any rewarding venture, learning the basics can be a relatively slow, at times tedious and sometimes discouraging endeavor. This is as true for children as it is for adult beginners. One reason is that people often overestimate what they can do in a short period of time. When they don’t achieve their initial goal, they become discouraged and may give up. But then, just as often, people underestimate what they can achieve in a longer period of time.
If a student can figure out a way to stay committed through the ‘learning the basics’ period, he or she is often surprised at the results.
We have found that the most effective ways to get students through this initial period is to have them follow a very structured progression of material at a comfortable pace (not too fast), to work within a community and to study the theory while away from their instrument.
The Cool Cat Method was developed to solve this problem.
We have compiled a steady progression of material that provides many small successes along the way. We combine free coaching from professional musicians and a progression of material in the form of flash cards to provide a comprehensive framework that will get students through the biggest stumbling block – reading music. And, for particularly busy people, we've also focused on providing a method that is very convenient to use while away from your instrument and can be used to capture lost time such while commuting.
